Keep in closed box

Store fireworks in a closed metal or wooden box away from heat. Never carry them in your pocket.

Read all firework instructions carefully before lighting and follow the required safety distance.

Check your garden

CHECK YOUR GARDEN

Ensure no trees, structures, or cables obstruct the firework path and that your garden suits the firework type.

Retire immediately

RETIRE IMMEDIATELY

After lighting, move immediately to the safety distance. Never go back to a lit firework unless the instructions advise otherwise.

Fireworks Safety Rules

Fireworks are designed to be enjoyed by all ages and we are keen to ensure your night goes off as smoothly as possible. Following the points below will help ensure your evening is mishap free.

Fireworks may NOT be used in a public place.
NEVER put a firework in your pocket.
Direct any rockets away from spectators.
Fireworks are sold to adults aged 18 or above only.
NEVER throw a firework.
Children handling sparklers must wear gloves, be supervised by an adult, and place used sparklers in a bucket of water.
Light all fireworks at arm’s length and never place any part of your head or body above the firework when lighting.
Keep pets indoors during fireworks displays — animals can be extremely distressed by loud bangs and bright lights.

Guidelines

The storage of fireworks in the UK is regulated by the Explosives Regulations 2014. All fireworks must be stored in accordance with these regulations and any applicable Health & Safety guidance from HSE.

  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry, well-ventilated location away from all sources of heat, flame and ignition.
  • Keep fireworks in their original packaging until required, original boxes include important safety information.
  • Do not store large quantities of fireworks in domestic premises — follow HSE guidelines for maximum quantities.
